BAGAC, Bataan – Pursuant to Proclamation No. 760 s. 2014 declaring the month of January as Zero Waste Month as well as the 17th Signing Anniversary of Republic Act 9003 or the “Ecological Solid Waste Management, ”the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau spearheaded the National Clean-Up Day last January 20.
Hon. Louise Gabriel Q. del Rosario, Bagac Town Mayor, opted to do the Clean-Up earlier in support to the big event on Jan. 20, that is the 4th WACOM or the World Congress on Mercy wherein he called for a meeting with the barangay captains last Jan. 17 to discuss the National Clean-Up Day as well as the municipality’s preparation for WACOM such as the cleanliness, traffic, security, medical team, as well as the suspension of classes during that day.
“Nakiisa ang aming bayan sa programang ito. Noong araw na iyon (Jan. 19), simultaneously lahat ng barangay sa Bagac ay nakiisa para makapag-comply kami doon sa National Clean-Up Day. Some of the participants were members of Kabalikat and 4Ps,” said Mr. Jaime Arellano, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO).
The local government unit (LGU) provided for the trucks which will pick up the garbage collected for Solid Waste Management, while for plastics, there is that so-called RCA or the Residual Containment Area and that the MRF (Material Recovery Facility) is still under construction.
“Maganda ang resulta nito sa Bagac kasi yung 3Rs o “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” ay nagagawa natin talaga. Kasi gusto namin maging eco-tourism ang Bagac in three years’ time. At siyempre ang pinakaunang problema na dapat solusyonan ay ang problema sa basura. By next week, baka mag-open na yung way papunta sa bago naming MRF that was donated by Danny Baciles,” MENRO Arellano pointed out.
