In the wake of the rapid increase in cases of COVID-19 in the country, an inter-agency committee led by the Bataan Provincial Health Office has proposed the creation of a quick-response emergency team in case of a possible lockdown scenario in the province.
The plan, called the Bataan Outbreak Response Team, was unveiled during an emergency meeting held last Wednesday at Loui’s Restaurant attended by Governor Abet Garcia, health workers from all over the province; local government officials, representatives of public and private hospitals, industries, religious groups, law enforcement agencies, transport and port authorities, hotel and resort owners, and officials of schools and universities, among others.
The Bataan Outbreak Response Team will be in-charge in surveillance and real-time monitoring of Covid-19 cases by implementing fever monitoring, and mapping out high-risk areas due to movement of people and overcrowding.
The team will also be on top of any COVID-19 related medical management and referrals, communications and public education, logistical needs and effective governance.
The objectives are to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in Bataan as well as provide information and health education regarding the deadly virus to the anxious public. It will also set into motion a system to immediately report, refer and manage any Person Under Investigation (PUI), as well as give necessary guidelines to Persons Under Monitoring (PUM).
As of this writing, Bataan is still officially COVID-19 free. The proactive stance against COVID-19 being taken by the provincial government and health department of the province was well-received by the people.
Dinalupihan Mayor Gila Garcia said during the open forum that they have been on the lookout for a facility that can eventually be converted into a medical ward to help augment the existing medical resources of the province.
Mayor Gila added, “the COVID-19 situation requires us all to be united in our efforts to conquer it. People need to know that their government is doing everything it can to make sure they get the protection they need.” |SHIRLEY PIZARRO
