BALANGA City Treasurer Joselito Evangelista is confident that business activities in the capital city will bounce back and fully recover from ruins brought about by the threat of Covid-19. In an interview Monday, Evangelista said 98 percent of businesses in Balanga and other parts of Bataan are down “but not out” yet.
He admitted that the city government’s coffers just like any other is affected by the pandemic. He said city treasurer’s office did not charge interest nor penalty to tax payers from March 15 to June 21, 2020 in compliance with the national government’s “Heal as One” program.
Many owners of affected business establishments in Balanga had to request for discount on tax obligations until such time that they have recovered from the pandemic. “Sa palagay ko mabilis naman sila maka-recover,” said Evanelista. (I think businesses can recover fast.)
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, City Mayor Francis Garcia had announced Balanga City could earn as much as P1 Billion a year beginning year 2020, which was affirmed by Evangelista saying the said amount can be realized.
