MARIVELES, Bataan – House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo together with Rep. Dakila Cua, of the Committee on Ways and Means and Usec. Carl Chua of the Department of Finance took the initiative to visit the Freeport Area of Bataan to listen to the concerns of the locators.

Cong. Joet Garcia, Gov. Abet Garcia, AFAB Chairman Emy Pineda and Mariveles Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion are one in saying that the meeting was a success as it gave the locators the opportunity to voice out their concerns, questions were answered, doubts were clarified with the hope that amendments will be done to arrive at a win-win solution to the revenue side of the government and job generations for our country.

Cong. Joet also said that the “time-bound” issue was clarified. Previously with PEZA or even with the FAB, they’re giving longer time on incentives however presently they’re only giving 5 (years) +2 , which means the additional 2 years is for rural areas or less developed areas.

Meanwhile Cong. Cua said that, “may pag asa ang incentive even beyond 5 years, so long as the locators keep expanding their business, they can always re-apply for new sets of incentives.

Cong Joet added that another important thing achieved in the meeting was that, the locators were able to inform our national officials the new policies in other countries as many of them have already established operations there as well as the competitions in those areas; because we are not competing among ourselves but globally.

With that, Cong Joet said that we should be able to craft this bill to fully address those concern with the hope that there would be additional compromises and negotiations to help our people.
