ORANI, Bataan – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has earmarked P 590 million for the rechanneling of river and road diversion project in Barangay Palihan, Hermosa town, this province.
Engineer Erlindo R. Flores, Jr., district engineer of the DPWH in the First Engineering District in the province explained the rechanneling of Palihan river, a flood mitigation priority project in Bataan of the regional office of DPWH is expected to be completed next year.
Based on the technical study of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Engineer Flores said the multi-million peso worth infrastructure project would prevent massive flooding in the two adjacent municipalities of Dinalupihan and Hermosa which reportedly suffered perennial flooding due to inadequate river outlets.
He note that houses, farmlands, public works utilities and other sources of livelihood of the residents of Hermosa and Dinalupihan towns were destroyed by rampaging rainwaters coming from the mountain ranges of Zambales, Bataan, and Pampanga.
Engineer Flores said that the completion of the huge flood control system would provide faster transport of goods and services and better accessibility for investors, commuters, and traders going to the three progressive economic zones namely Freeport Area of Bataan, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and Clark Economic Zone.
