Helping hands beyond bars

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – “The Provincial Government of Bataan, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) always seek for ways on how they can help the persons deprived of liberty given the situation they have,” said Mr. Gaudencio Ferrer in his inspirational message to the persons deprived of liberty during the 2018 National Correctional Consciousness Week with a theme: “Pagbabago sa kanlungan ng piitan ay tunay na makakamtan sa makabagong pamamaraan” held at the Bataan District Jail Covered Court, this morning, October 22.
Bataan District Jail Dancers performed cultural dances such as maglalatik, itik-itik and tinikling to entertain the participants.
“It is our 5th year in doing this partnership with the BJMP and I hope everyone will benefit from this kind of event,” said College of Nursing and Midwifery Dean, Dr. Ruby Matibag.
Health services like dental, vaccination and medical check-up were given to the persons deprived of liberty by the staff of BPSU Graduate School and College of Nursing and Midwifery.
Mental Health Awareness seminar was also held along with health services. “We must turn depression into H.O.P.E which stands for Hear from professional, Obey well, Preach God’s love, and Encounter with the right people in order to overcome it,” said Ms. Leslie Gloton, RN of Mariveles Mental Hospital who led the seminar.
