CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – In celebration of the National Food Authority’s 42nd Founding Anniversary, themed “Bigas ng NFA, Para sa Taumbayan”, NFA-Bataan, spearheaded by its Provincial Manager, Mrs. Adelaida C. Nuestro, once again conducted its annual bloodletting activity, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross-Bataan Chapter, the Bataan Grains Retailers’ Association (BAGRETAS), headed by their President, Mr. Conrado Sebastian and of course, NFA-Bataan’s Employees’ Association headed by their President, Mr. Alex G. Batac. The celebration was held on the day of the anniversary itself, which is September 26.
The event started with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Father Noel Nuguid of the Divine Mercy Chapel, at exactly 8:00 in the morning.
Right after the mass, volunteers and members of the PRC-Bataan, headed by their Interim Administrator, Ms. Florame Magalong, were flocked by the throngs of people who lined up to donate their blood for this worthy cause.
Volunteer doctors namely, Dr. Glory V. Baltazar and Dr. Noel Laxamana of the Bataan General Hospital, Dr. Irma Mendoza & Dr. Arlene Canoy of Abucay Health Office, Dr. Hector Santos of Bagac Community & Medicare Hospital and Dr. John Lucas, a private practising anaesthesiologist, also lent their time and expertise to ensure that each blood donor is in good health condition before their donation.
Blood donors came in groups, mostly recruited by the NFA’s accredited rice retailers. Other volunteers were members of the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Criminal Investigation & Detection Group and REACT-Bataan, headed by Architect Nick Rubiano.
Even Bataan Provincial Governor, Abet S. Garcia graced the event and took the time to discuss some plans and programs of his administration with the officers of NFA and PRC-Bataan.
The bloodletting drive was packed with donors until early afternoon and by the end of the day, the event was able to collect ninety four (94) bags of 450 cc of blood. The collected blood went directly to the supply of PRC-Bataan, which will then facilitate the distribution of said collection for the benefit of Bataeños in need of blood, and also people from other neighbouring provinces.
