The National Food Authority Region 3 thru the Bataan provincial office has started port operations at Seafront Shipyard in Lucanin, Mariveles, to facilitate transfer of rice stocks to other regions.
As part of distribution strategies of NFA, 160,000 bags of IMR will be transferred to Regions 5 and 6 specifically to the provinces of Iloilo, Catanduanes and Masbate to augment their rice inventories.
On September 23, 2019, during the pre-port operations meeting held in Balanga City, NFA Regional Director Piolito C. Santos gave the instruction to immediately commence the transfer of stocks to the destination regions for local distribution.
The loading operation officially started last September 27 with the arrival of MV Ligaya in Mariveles. After a thorough inspection of the vessel, loading of IMR stocks sourced from Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Bataan), directly to the vessel started on September 28. Said vessel left the port terminal last October 4 for Iloilo with a load of 41,003 bags.
