Organic agriculture is holistic- Rodis

BALANGA CITY, Bataan- Organic Agriculture (OA) Focal Person Louie Rodis emphasized that this practice is advantageous because of its holistic approach.
In an exclusive interview with Rodis during the OA practitioners meeting this morning, she explained the importance of implementing this type of farming.
According to her, by avoiding chemicals for the crops, we can protect the environment and the health of consumers.
“Sa programa na ‘to, umiiwas tayo sa chemicals to protect the environment and produce healthy crops para ‘yung health ng tao ay maproteksyunan against sa mga sakit na pwede nating makuha kapag kumain tayo ng mga chemically treated na pagkain, like colon cancer, skin diseases, at Parkinson’s disease,” she said
Organic agriculture requires time as the soil will go through the process of organic fertilization before it acquires various micronutrients and macronutrients needed for large production of crops.
Meanwhile, this was first introduced in Bataan in 2013 where several farmers have already been practicing the natural way. However, the province is not yet tagged as an organic grower province because it is still at the conversion period.
Some farmers who have tried cannot sustain such practices due to some reasons, one of which is that the synthetic ones are readily available at the market, hence are instant.
Nonetheless, the benefit of organic agriculture is holistic as it follows the principle of ecology, care, health, and fairness.
