7 bishops, more than 60 priests expected in Morong Canonical Coronation

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Everything is all set for the holding of Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of the Pillar in Morong, Bataan today, Wednesday October 10.
Bishop Ruperto Santos of the Diocese of Balanga said the coronation shall be officiated by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Gabrielle Giordano Caccia. Seven bishops and more than 60 priests from different parts of the country, and local officials are expected to attend the religious event in the mountainous municipality.
Canonical Coronation is a liturgical practice of the Universal Church with the approval of the Holy Father with his Papal bull issued by Sacred Congregation for divine worship and the Discipline of Sacraments.
“So for us, the Canonical Coronation is God’s grace for Bataan. It is gracious gift of our Holy Father, Pope Francis to our local church, the Diocese of Balanga,” Bishop Santos explained.
The parish church of Morong was founded by the Augustinian recollects in 1607, with the original image of our Lady of del Pilar given to Kapitan Benito Llenarez, capitan municipal at that time, and handed to his siblings.
This Canonical Coronation, Santos said, is testament of the strong,living faith of the people. “They kept the image amidst revolution and wars to manifest the profound affectioand homage of town people towards our Blessed Mother,” said the Bishop.
Through the years, the town of Morong is blessed with abundant year end harvests from her lands and seas.
