Mayor Jon Arizapa has warned residents to remain vigilant against online scammers after a fake Facebook account using the name “Jon Arizapa Fan” surfaced on social media and allegedly attempted to deceive members of the public.
In an advisory posted on the mayor’s official social media page, Arizapa clarified that the account has no connection to him or the Office of the Mayor. The local chief executive said efforts are already underway to have the fraudulent account removed and urged the public not to engage in transactions or share personal information with unverified online profiles.
The warning comes as cases of social media impersonation and online scams continue to rise across the country. Screenshots shared by the municipal government showed the fake account allegedly sending messages requesting cellphone numbers and other information from unsuspecting users. Authorities reminded residents to verify accounts before responding to messages and to report suspicious online activities to help prevent fraud and protect the community from cyber-related crimes.
