HERMOSA, Bataan- Mayor Danilo Malana of this town pushes for the construction of a modest but modern public market adjacent to the municipal plaza. “It will be called a commercial complex instead of a public market but to function as such. Ang hangarin natin ay ang mapasigla ang kabayanan at hindi maiwan sa pag-unlad,” he said.
Malana said that instead of buying a lot for the project, he endorses the small idle lot near the town plaza to be utilized under a controlled environment. The mayor appeased the fear of teachers and parents in the nearby public elementary school that it will be a typical market. “It will have proper ventilation and sanitation and the wet portion will be screened and the floors will be tiled,” he said.
“Akala ng mga teachers karaniwang wet market at baka dumami ang langaw,” Hermosa public schools district supervisor Edna Dizon said. Malana assured the teachers and his constituents that the 800-square meter commercial complex will be fly-free and odor-free. “Ang gusto natin makilala ang Hermosa sa pagkakaroon ng malinis at makabagong palengke,” he added.
Construction of the ground floor will cost P10 million with P7.5M coming from stallholders/ investors, but the mayor said they are targeting two floors. “Maraming interesado na magbayad na ng goodwill na P50,000 – P100,000,” he said. He said that the 7 – Eleven chain of convenient stores has already entered into a contract with the municipality to put up a branch in the complex.
The mayor said that the complex can accommodate stalls from the nearby old and small market that will soon be converted into a playground. “Magiging mas maganda at ligtas na lugar na laruan ito ng mga bata,” Malana said.
He said he sees nothing wrong in the new market in Barangay Palihan. “Kaya lang masyadong malaki and not adapted to demand.”
