BAGAC, Bataan – In a bid to safeguard public health and ensure the well-being of its residents, this town has launched an anti-smoking campaign on Friday.
“We amended our anti-smoking ordinance to be more effective and to suit present time”, said Councilor Popoy Del Rosario, SB Chairman of the Committee on Health, who authored the amended ordinance during the program held at the town plaza.
He also authored the original anti-smoking ordinance.
“We have to protect the health of our people”, he pointed out to participants.
“We are very much aware that this campaign does not sit well with many smokers here but we have to implement what we think is good for all”, stressed the councilor who was also the organizer of the launching activity.
“We urged everyone to please quit smoking”, he appealed.
“We are very grateful because of the unwavering support of the top officials of the province for our anti-smoking campaign. Cong. Joet Garcia and Board Member Noel Valdecanas are here with us”, he said.
“Cong. Joet in spite of his very busy schedule finds time to join us in short notice”, the councilor shared who personally went to the house of the solon to inform him of the activity.
It will be remembered that the congressman actually started the no-smoking policy in the province when he was the city mayor of Balanga.
In his message, Garcia said to local folks “Aspire for long life and stop smoking as cigarette contains 7,000 harmful chemicals”.
“I am happy to be part of this launching and thank you to Bagac officials for undertaking this activity”, he added.
Bagac Mayor Gab Del Rosario, and Councilors Noel Dela Rosa,Ver Alonzo, Noel Del Rosario, Ernesto Labog, and Reca Mae Labog (SK Fed Pres) also joined the launching.
Activities of the launching program included anti-smoking walk from Phil-Japan Friendship Tower to town plaza, signing pledge of commitment, ceremonial breaking of large replica of cigarette, and zumba.
The program was also attended by local health personnel, barangay and SK officials, municipal employees, PNP, Phil Coast Guard, BFP, and concerned citizens.
