For the third consecutive year, Bataan served as the venue for a major gathering of experts in blockchain, artificial intelligence, and information technology through the Global Emerging Tech Summit 2025 held October 28 and 29 at the Bataan People’s Center.
Hosted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Blockchain Council of the Philippines (BCP), and the Provincial Government of Bataan, the 2-day summit organized by Philippine Blockchain Week, brought together local and international experts to discuss the current state, adoption, challenges, and future of blockchain technology in the country.
During the first day, discussions centered on the latest innovations and opportunities brought by digital transformation, highlighting the importance of technology in fostering inclusive growth and improving public service delivery. The day concluded with a Governor’s Night held at the Tourism Pavilion, where participants and guests gathered to celebrate the province’s achievements in tech-driven governance.
The University Town Summit on the second day focused on the role of digital governance in enhancing the quality of education and preparing students for a technology-driven future.
Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III reaffirmed Bataan’s commitment to advancing e-governance and promoting innovation through partnerships with the national government and the private sector. A strong advocate of digital transformation, Garcia, during his stint at the House of Representatives, is the principal author of Republic Act No. 11453, that strengthens the powers and functions of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB). The law enables the use of blockchain technology and other emerging digital systems within the Freeport, positioning Bataan as the first local government in the Philippines to institutionalize blockchain in governance and business operations.
