The Governor added that Bataan, after enduring the pains of the past especially during the Second World War in the 1940s, is now on the “road to industrialization.”
Meanwhile, World War II veterans and their families, clad in their blue vest uniform and cap with embroidery of federation and district address, dominated the audience area at the Dambana ng Kagitingan in Mt. Samat.
The veterans were assisted by the staff of the national and provincial governments for them to be seated in front of the stage where President Benigno S. Aquino III delivered his message.
Emmanuel Bautista led the conferral of full military honors to President Aquino as he approached the Shrine of Valor for the wreath laying ceremonies. Among those who conferred the military honors were high ranking officials from the PNP, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard.
President Aquino arrived at the Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valor) at exactly 9:20 a.m. where he was accorded full military honors with 21 gun salute by the Philippine Army.
The Chief Executive then proceeded to the Colonnade area for the wreath laying ceremony where he was joined by American Ambassador Philip Goldberg and Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe.
A Philippine Air Force chopper flew-by during the wreath laying and dropped flowers to the Shrine.
Among the local officials from Bataan present at the event were Bataan 1st District Representative and House Committee on Veterans Affairs Chairperson Herminia Roman, Vice Governor Efren Pascual, Jr., some provincial board members, Orion Mayor Antonio Raymundo Jr., Pilar Mayor Alicia Pizarro, Samal Mayor Gene Dela Fuente and Freeport Area of Bataan Chairman Deo Custodio
