BALANGA CITY, Bataan – With a theme “Pagkilala sa kakayahan, ambag at paglahok ng nakatatanda sa lipunan”, the Provincial Government of Bataan through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) celebrated the Elderly Filipino Week yesterday, October 5, 2017, at Lou-Is Resort & Restaurant, this city.
“Itong celebration natin, wag po nating kaligtaan na nandito rin po kami upang makinig po sa inyo. Alam ko pong marami pa kayong suggestions on how to improve your life as senior citizens dito po sa Bataan at makikinig po kami,” Gov. Abet said in his short message. Vice Gov. Cris Garcia, BM Jose Villapando Sr. (Chairman, Committee on Senior Citizens), Mr. Vigilio Catalan (Provincial Chairman, Bataan League of OSCA Heads), and Ms. Marilyn Tigas (PSWDO Head) also gave their short messages.
Ms. Lou Angela Daet, focal person for elderly of Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region 3, discussed the updates on the implementation of national/regional elderly programs.
For the main highlight of the event, senior citizens from all over Bataan together with the members of Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of the Philippines (FSCAP), Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), and City/Municipality Social Welfare & Development Office (C/MSWDO) joined in the Zumba Dance Competition. All municipalities competed and these are the results:
3rd prize: Abucay
2nd prize: Morong
1st prize: Pilar
The winners will represent the province in the regional competition soon.
