BALANGA CITY, Bataan – About 124 college students from eighteen (18) private and public educational institutions attended a-one day startup seminar-workshop at the Emiliana Hall, Barangay Tenejero, this city the other day.
Ms. Rosalie Ona, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) provincial director, said the seminar-workshop aimed to strengthen and continuously support the information technology -business process management industry specially spreading the benefits and opportunities to the countryside.
Ona explained the DOST- Information and Communications Technology Industry Development Project Management Team (ICTIDPMT) is focusing on the promotion of human capital development and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship by encouraging Filipinos to be innovative business owners.
A-joint undertaking of Bataan ICT Development Council chaired by Rogelio Zulueta of Eastwood Professional College ; Francis S. Garci , City of Balanga adviser of Barangay Mentors Society and Ms. Emmy Lou Delfin, DOST – ICTO program manager, the startup workshop, now in its second year “rebooted the activities to make it a more hands on and interactive experience for participants”, Ona said.
She described the country as having been recognized as the first and second destination of choice for ICT outsourcing services in the voice and non-voice sector, the said seminar-workshop would provide great opportunities to the youth to further enhance their competence through a series of workshops that cover basic startup concepts and methods that can guide them in “conceptualizing their own innovative ICT business”.
According to Ona, the workshop covered these major activities namely; idea generation and development, identifying and validating the market, unique value proposition and pitching.
She added the seminar-workshop is part of the city government’s goal of making Balanga City a technology city by year 2020.
