As an employee of any organization, our main goal should not be the monetary gain, although it is the prime reason why people work themselves to the bones. As Tapalla, an author of various essays puts it, money is the prime mover of things. But when it comes to assessing the success of man, the best gauge is what has become of him or her because of his endeavor.
In fact, the highest reward for his hard work is not the money but the strength of character that is developed by that particular endeavor. There were so many great men and women who had long passed away, but, we continue to revere their memories. Monetary gain was not their concern. Their main concern was to lessen the suffering and to make the lives of others more pleasant.
As an employee, how would you like to be remembered in your place of residence when you pass to the Great Beyond? As an employee, how will people remember you—someone unpleasant or someone who is hardworking, with good human relationships, good in communication and someone nice to be around with? The choice is yours.
So, my dear co-workers, when doing a task, give your all. Delegate authority but not responsibility. Responsibility to the task is yours alone.
There are many individuals who are worthy of emulation. You may not equal their glory, but in your own little way you can make a contribution to society to alleviate the sufferings of those around you. Say a kind word to someone you meet along the street, the corridor, the mess hall, in a meeting, training or seminar. Give a smile to someone you see across the aisle of a public transport, to an office visitor, to clients. Give an encouraging word to someone, to a co-worker.
There are so many things you can do to make the lives of others more comfortable. It is not the money alone that people want. More than anything else, they need love, care, concern and encouragement. Especially in an organization like the DepEd, the real measure of humanity is not what you get from that task but what you become by it.
