Green Legacy team leaders’ orientation meeting

BALANGA City, Bataan – As part of the preparation for the upcoming official attempt of the Provincial Government of Bataan to break the current Guinness World Record for most trees planted in a single site within one hour, the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) set an orientation meeting for the team leaders, held this morning at the Bataan People’s Center, this City.

Mr. Victor Ubaldo, PG-ENRO Head, said the meeting was in connection with the comprehensive tree planting activity tagged as “Bataan Green Legacy Program” which will take place on June 25, 2016, at Brgy. General Lim, Orion, Bataan.

“We are doing this to inform the team leaders of the instructions that they need to follow during the official attempt. We will give them directions at sila na ang bahala na mag-relay sa mga miyembro ng team nila,” Ubaldo stated.

Since pre-dug holes are no longer permitted according to the guidelines given by the Guinness, the 1Bataan target of 10,000 volunteers was changed to 20,000 to further achieve the aim of planting 400,000 seedlings in one hour.

The tree planting activity is open to all the stakeholders of Bataan, male or female, who are physically fit (as the site is slightly rolling terrain) to hike a minimum of 1.5 kilometers from unloading area to planting site and plant seedlings for one hour. Also, Mr. Ubaldo advised the participants to prepare for this is a rain or shine activity.

The official attempt on June 25 is a fitting day to celebrate Arbor Day and Environment Month which carries the goal of publicizing the solidarity of the people of Bataan in action, stewardship and conservation of the environment and to promote awareness on the importance of planting trees as well as to address the environmental responsibility of all sectors.
