Board Member Romano del Rosario urges local government units to train lifeguards following the recent drowning incident in a beach resort in Morong town where teenaged brothers from Valenzuela City were victims.
BM Del Rosario said the LGUs and the beach resort owners may coordinate with the Philippine Coast Guard who will train lifeguards. The training course usually takes several days to one week.
Del Rosario was worried about the frequent drowning incidents in beach resorts in Morong and nearby towns. He said the incident affects the tourism industry in Bataan.
Bagac town alone earns millions of pesos from the environmental fee from local and foreign tourists during summer time when their arrivals surge at a certain level.
“I think it’s about time beach resort owners organize themselves and advise swimmers on the do’s and don’ts in their swimming activities,” Del Rosario said during an interview at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan session hall.
