Orani celebrates 112th year founding anniversary

ORANI, Bataan- This week marks the 112th year founding anniversary of the municipality of Orani.

Today, March 9, the celebration started with a Grand Parade and Trade Exhibit followed by the State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) of third-termer Mayor Benjie Serrano, Jr.

On Wednesday, March11, the 1st Padyakan sa Orani 2015, a mountain bike race, will be held to be followed by the annual Mr. and Ms. Body Shot 2015.

A parade of the establishments will also be staged in major streets here featuring their respective businesses in colorful floats. Among other activities include DepEd / OSCA Night, Orani Got Talent 2015, SMB night and the colorful and festive Alimango-Sugpo Festival 2015.

Orani is a first class municipality with a population of almost 65,000 people. It has a total land area of 5,926.00 hectares covering 29 barangays (villages). About 1,231 hectares are used for agriculture, 1,943.86 hectares are forestland, 971.93 hectares are forest reservation and 1,295.91 hectares are reserved for the Bataan National Park. The rest are classified as wetland.

The town is famous for its aquamarine resources like milkfish, tilapia, prawn, crabs, mussels and oysters are caught in Orani’s rich fishing grounds and fishponds. Coffee, palay, vegetables, peanut, citrus trees and fruit trees are the major produce. Cutflowers like aster, chrysanthemum and gerbera are locally cultivated while bamboo and jungle vines can be gathered from Orani’s rich forestlands.

Orani became the capital of Bataan from 1905 to1907 under Governor Lorenzo Zialcita and from 1908 to 1909 under Governor Pedro Rich.
