NGCP implements disaster action plan

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – To be able to efficiently prepare during typhoons and disasters, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has hatched an Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP).

“We have been doing preparation activities for the occurrence of typhoons and disasters. We initiated the Integrated Disaster Action Plan as part of our aim to be constantly prepared”, said NGCP Regional Corporate Communication Officer Ernest Vidal in his radio guesting at Smile Radio 98.3 FM here.

“What we want is to ensure the safety of the public and to be able to immediately restore the power supply during typhoons and disasters”, he added.

“As part of the preparation, in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, we have already pruned the branches of trees that could affect our transmission lines. We usually do this a quarter before the typhoon season”, he further said.

“Personnel on ground, in particular our linemen, already know what to do in times of typhoons and disasters”, he assured.

A month ago, Vidal also guested in Smile Radio to educate the public on transmission line safety. He assured that NGCP cares about the safety of the public as he urged all to help in maintaining a reliable, safe, and secure transmission system in the country.

Vidal pointed out that they are a private company “operating with an outlook of public service”. The company is in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets.
