OWD to plant another 10,000 seedlings

ORANI, Bataan – The Orani Water District (OWD) will be planting another 10,000 seedlings at the Tala watershed area, which they are reforesting for four years now. The water district is nurturing 28 hectares watershed area, which is part of the Bataan National Park.

OWD General Manager Benni Andres said they have already planted 30,300 tree seedlings at the watershed area in the upland Barangay Tala, this town. “We scheduled our next planting activity this coming August 15”, he said.

Andres earlier said they have very high batting average of the seedlings they planted. He added they prefer to plant tibig trees, which hold more water compared to other tree species. He said they hired 2 patrol personnel to guard and monitor the seedlings they planted.

In celebrating its anniversary every February for the past 4 years, OWD has been sponsoring fun run for a cause to raise fund for the water district’s reforestation program. Andres explained that their reforestation efforts at the Tala watershed area aim to improve the water source under it. “We have to improve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas”, he stressed.

OWD is aiming to get water from the watershed area in the future to be distributed to its clients. The water district is currently getting water from the town’s lowland aquifers.
