ORANI, Bataan – The Orani Water District (OWD) will be conducting its 4th year of watershed reforestation in the upland village of Tala, this town.
OWD General Manager Benni Andres said they will be planting another 10,000 seedlings at the watershed area. He earlier said they will conduct the next planting activity on August 15.
OWD has already planted 30,300 tree seedlings at the Tala watershed area for the last 3 years. The water district is nurturing 28 hectares of the watershed area, which is part of the Bataan National Park.
Andres earlier said they have a very high batting average on the seedlings they planted. He added they prefer to plant tibig trees, which hold more water compared to other tree species. In fact they hired two patrol personnel to guard and monitor the seedlings they planted.
In celebrating its anniversary every February for the past 4 years, OWD has been sponsoring “fun run for a cause” to raise funds for the water district’s reforestation program.
Andres explained that their reforestation effort at the Tala watershed area aims to improve the water source under it. “We have to improve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas”, he stressed.
