OWD plants another 8,550 seedlings

“We have to improve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas”

ORANI, Bataan – The Orani Water District (OWD) has planted another 8,550 seedlings at the Tala watershed area this town on Saturday.

OWD Manager Benni Andres led water district workers, local policemen, army personnel, Knights of Columbus members, students, members of religious groups, and other volunteers in the planting of tibig seedlings in upland Tala. The more than 8,000 seedlings were earlier planted, and 500 were actually planted last Saturday.

The water district is nurturing 28 hectares watershed area, which is part of Bataan National Park. Prior to last Saturday’s activity, OWD had already planted 30,300 seedlings at the watershed area in upland Tala for the past 3 years.

Andres earlier said they have very high batting average on the seedlings they planted. He added they prefer to plant tibig trees, which hold more water compared to other tree species. He also said that they hired two patrol personnel to guard and monitor the seedlings they planted.

For four years now, OWD in celebrating its anniversary every February has been sponsoring a fun run for a cause to raise funds for the water district’s reforestation program. Andres explained that their reforestation effort at the Tala watershed area aims to improve the water source under it.

“We have to improve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas”, he stressed.
