ORANI, Bataan – Officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured Bataeños yesterday that the ongoing P100 million dredging project in the Almacen River along the Orani Channel will not be left behind until “we meet the required depth.”
This was the assurance made by DPWH regional director Antonio Molano, Jr., to newsmen during an ocular inspection in the site to witness the ongoing excavation of the river where hundreds of millions of pesos had been spent by the national government to address the perennial flooding problems in Northern Bataan, particularly the towns of Orani, Hermosa and Dinalupihan.
Project engineer Arnold Ocampo showed newsmen how the dredging machines work and spew tons of mud, using a huge pipeline as big as the human body size. “We will not remove the dredging machines until we attain the required depth,” assured Engr. Ocampo.
Engr. Ocampo explained that after dredging the Almacen river, the mouth of Orani Channel should also be excavated thoroughly to ensure the smooth flow of flood waters coming from higher grounds in Northern Bataan.
