BALANGA CITY, Bataan – A-P50 million three storey Mariveles District Hospital with 50-bed capacity is expected to become operational early next year.
Mariveles Mayor Jesse Concepcion said the government–run hospital is one of the priority projects of Bataan 2nddistrict Rep. Enrique T. Garcia, Jr. and Governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia to improve the quality of health services for about 25,000 workers of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB), the fastest growing ecozone in the country, and 120,000 residents of the industrial town.
Concepcion stressed the establishment of a public hospital would further safeguard the well being of the residents who have to travel about one hour to get better medical treatments and check-ups from private and public hospitals located in Balanga City.
Mayor Concepcion, a three termer town executive of the nation’s first export processing zone, said the district hospital site fronting the former Bataan Economic Zone (BEZ) administration building is a jointly funded project of the Bataan provincial government, Mariveles municipal government and Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB).
He explained the GN coal-powered plant operating inside the huge AFAB complex would donate million-dollar worth of modern medical equipment imported from the United States in the new district hospital for the opening of the power firm outreach program in the locality.
The new district hospital would augment the facilities of existing cooperative–run hospital to provide wider medical services to the residents, Concepcion added.
