BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Balanga City is eyeing the Hall of Fame in National Literacy Award.
“Through the leadership of Mayor Francis Garcia and Vice Mayor Vianca Venzon-Gozon, we are aiming to win the Literacy Award for the 3rd time this year to become Hall of Fame Awardee”, said Councilor Benjie Merino.
This city already twice emerged as champion in the National Literacy Awards for the component city category.
Members of Literacy Coordinating Council conducted last week a 3-day validation of the literacy programs of the city.
The city literacy programs include barangay learning hubs, reading/IT corners, ALS class, Project Duke Session, learning barangay week, Edu Child Parenting Program, and school learning hub.
Bataan 2nd district Congressman and former city mayor Joet Garcia, Mayor Garcia, and Venzon-Gozon led other city officials in presenting the literacy programs to the members of the Literacy Coordinating Council on Tuesday. “The presentation lasted up to 11pm at the AVR Room of the city hall”, said Merino.
During the council’s visit, all the existing literacy programs of Balanga were validated. Merino said the city is prioritizing education to bring about inclusive progress and development.
The government has launched the National Literacy Program award to give recognition to local government units that are undertaking literacy programs for the less-fortunate like the out-of-school youth.
