Bataan all set to break another Guinness record

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – As the Provincial Government of Bataan eyes to break the current Guinness World Record on most number of trees planted in one single site within one hour, the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) set an organizational and consultation meeting at the Bataan Peninsula State University-Main Campus, Conference 1 yesterday.

“This meeting is in preparation for the Bataan Green Legacy Program. Ito yung program kung saan tina-target natin na magkaroon ng 8,000-10,000 volunteers para makapagtanim ng 400,000 seedlings sa loob ng isang oras. So, minimum kada isang tao ay tig-fo-forty seedlings,” said Mr. Victor Ubaldo, PG-ENRO Department Head.

The activity is entitled “Comprehensive Tree Planting Program: Green Legacy for Bataeños” wherein the province will have the official attempt on June 24, 2016, to break the record currently held by India, particularly in Mansa, Punjab, which was able to plant 208,751 trees with 5,928 volunteers in October 30, 2015.

“Sa pamamagitan nito, gusto nating ipakita sa buong mundo na ang Bataan ay nagkakakaisa sa pangangalaga sa ating kalikasan. At kasabay ng malaking event sa June 24 ay ang Arbor Day. Ito yung araw ng paggunita sa ating mga likas na yaman lalo na sa ating mga forest lands,” added Mr. Ubaldo.

The massive tree planting activity will be held at General Lim, Orion, Bataan; site will be at the 200 hectare Community Based Forest Management area of SAMAKALUGEN, Inc.

The objectives of the program are as follows: (1) publicize the solidarity of the people of Bataan in action, stewardship and conservation of the environment, (2) support the national greening program through public-private partnership, (3) promote awareness on the importance of planting trees and environmental responsibility of all sectors, and (4) achieve the highest survival rate of trees planted.

Provincial government offices, municipal employees, private sectors, business and industries, academe, people’s organization, and national government agencies attended on the said consultation meeting.
