Bataan PPO celebrates Fire Prevention Month

CITY of BALANGA, BATAAN – the Bataan Parole and Probation Office (BPPO) in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bataan held a Fire Prevention seminar last March 8, 2017 at Bahay Puso,Upper Tuyo, this City, Bataan. BPPO officers and staff together with its thirty two (32) clients attended the seminar and other training activities.

“Hindi daw mabuti ang maging materyoso” yan ang laging sinasabi bilang isang halimbawa ng mga values na pinapaalala sa atin ng mga nakatatanda sa atin.

Tuwing buwan ng Marso dapat tayong maging materyoso sa panahon na ito kung saan madalas ang sunog. Ang mga materyal na bagay na ito ay bunga ng ating mga pagsisikap at pagod, ito din ay nagbibigay ng kagaanan sa ating pang-araw- araw na buhay. Napakahalaga na ang bawat isa ay mapaalalahanan kung paano natin maiwasan mangyari ang sunog at maturuan kung paano maproteksyunan ang buhay at ari-arian sa panahon ng sunog.

SFO1 (Senior Fire Officer 1) Theresa A. Andrade of the Balanga City Fire station discuessed the (1) different causes of fire, (2) instructions on what to do in case of a fire emergency, (3) tips on how to properly secure gas tanks and electrical wiring to avoid any unwanted fire, (4) how to use fire extinguisher and (5) simple first aid procedure that they could conduct to fire victims. Fire, according to her, can cause loss of both properties and lives. It is very vital to know how to prevent fire from starting, and to properly place the causes of fire.

After discussing the different causes of fire, SFO1 Andrade explained how fire can be controlled or eliminated with the use of fire extinguisher.

In using a fire extinguisher, one must remember PASS.

Pull the pin that is placed on the lever

Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire. Stand six to eight feet away.

Squeeze the lever and

Sweep from side to side.

The participants were given a chance to ask questions related to the topic. The purpose of the seminar is to educate the participants about the dangers of an uncontrolled fire and what they should do if ever they are caught in such an emergency case.
