Beware of cheap products….DTI warns

ABUCAY, Bataan– A top official of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) warned the public yesterday against buying cheap products as these might  be substandard and pose danger to human health.

Nelin Cabahug, DTI provincial director, during the “Kapihan sa DTI,” held inside Villa Amanda resort here, advised the public to avoid buying cheap products particularly Christmas lights and other items being used this Christmas season if these do not bear Import Commercial Clearance (ICC).

Cabahug also pointed out that to ensure its quality, the product should also bear the “PS” (Philippine Standard) mark, which means said product passed the government’s standard quality. “I ask the public not to buy cheap products if they do not bear these marks since these are substandard and dangerous and may pose illnesses,” stressed Cabahug.

Most of these products are imported from neighboring countries and coming out before Christmas season. However, the public may not also distinguish the real from the substandard products if sellers put fake trademarks to entice buyers.

The DTI director said that the public can immediately report to DTI office if they encounter products that are suspicious and substandard so her office could do something about it to protect the consumers.
