DENR bans utilization of dumpsites

Can other local government units learn from this town on how to address their growing waste problems?

ORANI, Bataan – To ensure the well-being of their constituents, Mayor Benjie Serrano Jr, revealed yesterday that he and the barangay captains here have come up with a scheme to address the growing waste problems in this town.

Mayor Serrano’s action came in the wake of directives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for them to come up with solutions soon as possible to ensure the safety of their constituents.

“We were notified by the DENR to address waste problems so we sat down with barangay captains to discuss how to manage our wastes and prevent the widespread of flies here and we had agreed upon ourselves to tap the services of the Metro Clark Waste Management Corp. which operates a wide and safe landfill in nearby Pampanga,” Serrano.

Serrano pointed out that since utilizing an open land fill or dumpsite is banned by the DENR “it is safer for us to just tap the services of the Metro Clark Waste which will just haul regularly our wastes here and dump it in their landfill in Pampanga.”

Orani is known for being the major source of prawns, bangus and crabs.
