BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Balanga City Mayor Joet Garcia and Vice Mayor Noel Valdecanas led the Barangay Week Program in Puerto Rivas Ibaba on Monday. The top two officials of the city led the opening ceremony of the program attended by other city officials, village officials, and barangay folks. Punong Barangay Manny Bustamante headed village officials and folks in participating in the program.
Garcia reiterated the earlier message of Valdecanas in the program urging all folks to support the implementation of the worthy programs of the city government. “All of you must be partners of the city government’s programs”, the city mayor said.
Valdecanas reported that the city eye patrollers captured violations that included drinking on the streets, smoking in public places, improper disposal of garbage , stray dogs, and curfew for minors. “Let us all work together to finally stop these violations”, the vice mayor appealed. Eye patrollers are concerned citizens taking photos of transgressions in the city.
The Barangay Go Healthy Lifestyle was also launched during the program. Garcia started the Barangay Week Program in 2007 aiming to empower the 25 barangays in this city. Then, the activities were assigned by the city government. The program was modified into Barangay Week Program Version 2 wherein barangays assign the activities in the entire week-long program. The program was further modified to Learning Barangay Week Program integrating the learning aspect.
The city’s Barangay Week Program has been commended by government agencies and common folks, and replicated by other towns in the province. The tandem of Garcia and Valdecanas is credited for initiating award-winning governance practices, robust business growth, and delivery of genuine services to city folks.
