Lady mayor leads crushing of defective weighing scales

DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – To serve as stern warning to others, Mayor Gila Garcia personally led this morning the crushing of confiscated defective weighing scales from various commercial establishments here.

Driving a road roller (pison), in front of the municipal hall and before municipal employees and media members, the lady mayor destroyed the 101 confiscated weighing scales and crushed it into pieces.

“This is a clear message to the public that we want to protect the welfare of the consumers and this will serve as warning to others,” said Mayor Garcia, the first ever town executive to do the symbolic destruction of defective weighing scales.

Garcia thanked the Department of Trade and Industry led by its Provincial Director Nelin Cabahug and other businessmen who are supportive of the campaign against illegal weighing scales in the town.

For her part, director Cabahug said this does not mean that there are many cheaters here, instead, she said that the destruction means the DTI wants to everyone to be fair and square in business dealings.

Asked what sanctions the DTI will do to the owners of the questionable weighing scales, Cabahug said they will be reprimanded and if they continue, their licenses will be revoked.
