Samal candidates sign peace covenant for 2016 elections

SAMAL, Bataan – Candidates from two political camps of this 4th-class municipality on Friday joined together to sign the peace covenant for orderly and peaceful local elections here held at the St. Catherine of Sienna Parish Church.3

The event was organized by Samal PNP chief, P/Senior Insp. Dexter Ebbat and was attended by Comelec officials led by provincial election supervisor Atty. Gilbert Almario, Samal Comelec officer Maribeth Abadecio, Haidee Balicolon of Samal DILG, Nelson Oconer, provincial chairman of PPCRV, Amalia Ponce, principal of the St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic School and members of the local media.

Rev. Fr. Antonio Bernaldo, St. Catherine of Siena Parish priest, officiated a mass before the peace covenant signing. “Let us be the instruments of peace,” says Fr. Bernaldo in his homily addressing the rival camps in local politics here.

Mayor Generosa “Gene” Malibiran Dela Fuente and her opponent in the mayoralty race, Rafael Guinto were the first candidates to sign the peace covenant followed by the candidates for municipal councilors from both camps.
