Squatters along coastal barangays need to be relocated to safer areas

PILAR, Bataan – A top official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced yesterday that all structures constructed by illegal settlers or squatters along the coastal areas in Bataan which he described as dangerous should be demolished and relocated to safer areas.

Raul H. Mamac, head of the DENR in Bataan, said that aside from being perilous since these structures are standing on soft soil along the coast of Manila Bay, the occupants also
contribute to the pollution and dirty waters of the seashores.

Mamac also pointed out that since there is no sanitary control on the human wastes and other materials being dumped into the sea, these contribute a lot to the dirty waters and environment of Manila Bay, and all efforts of cleaning up the area will only go to naught. The DENR has been conducting massive cleaning up along the Manila Bay area.
Mamac however stressed that the local government units concerned should ensure the relocation site of the dislocated residents for them to have a decent life.
