Vice mayor’s ma is Dangal Balangueno 2015 awardee

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Lourdes Laxamana Valdecanas, mother of City Vice Mayor Noel Valdecanas, is one of the awardees of the prestigious Dangal Balangueno this year.

The older Valdecanas was chosen for her excellent and inspiring achievement in the field of education. Born to parents Lorenzo Laxamana and Soledad Nunez on June 20, 1934 in Corregidor Island, she finished her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree at the National Teachers College. She took her Master’s Degree at the Angeles University Foundation Incorporated.

Valdecanas served as a public school teacher for 17 years; head teacher for 2 years; 9 years as principal; and 3 years as supervisor prior to her retirement. Although already retired from the public school, the indefatigable educator is still teaching as a college instructor at the Tomas Del Rosario College in this City.

“Even my children could not stop me from being an instructor at T. Del Rosario College. I am an educator, and my passion is teaching. It is my happiness to impart knowledge”, she said in her message upon receiving the award from Balanga City Mayor Joet Garcia and her vice mayor-son. She was accompanied by her family in receiving the prestigious award.

Other awardees are Leonardo P. Reyes, Law; Dr. Salud A. Bagalso, Medicine; Erlinda G. Santos, Commerce; Rosario R. Banzon, Banking; Roberto F. Manlapaz, Fishery; Anthony S. Villanueva, Agriculture; Silvestre Tuazon Jr., Public Service; Rosalie V. Ona, Government Service; and Milagros A. Banzon, Community Development.

Dangal Balangueno is an annual event honoring Balanguenos for exhibiting excellence in their chosen fields.
