WBCP records highest migratory bird population in Balanga City

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The city government of this component city on Sunday along with the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) and other agencies conducted the Asian Water Bird Census for 2016 and recorded the highest number of migratory birds in recent years.

This was confirmed to the local newsmen here by WBCP President Gina Mapua. “We recorded 29,384 migratory birds here as compared to last year with more than 12,000 only,” Mapua said.

The activity was also in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) personnel and students from different schools and universities.

“We helped the team assigned to the Balanga Wetland Park by covering the other half of the wetlands and found some surprises – Greater Crested Terns and the endangered Chinese Egrets,” Michael Lu of WBCP posted on his Facebook account.
