The Oriental Bataan Hotel to rise inside Bataan Freeport

FREEPORT AREA OF BATAAN—-A classy hotel, The Oriental Bataan, will soon be built inside the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) in Mariveles. The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) and the LKY Group, the developer of the hotel, are already scheduling the ground breaking ceremony of the project. The abandoned four-storey Hilltop Hotel will be rehabilitated to become The Oriental Bataan.

          The hotel is part of the P300 million leisure hub that will rise in the 489,170.9 square meter property inside FAB following the agreement between AFAB and developer LKY Group.

Seminar on standards for training, watch keeping for seafarers held

MARIVELES, Bataan—An expert in standards for training, certification, and watch keeping for seafarers conducted  a two-week seminar for the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) staff and representatives of other concerned government agencies, according to an official of the Maritime Academy of the Asia and the Pacific (MAAP).    

          MAAP External Relations Director Angelica Baylon said Capt. Fazlur Rahman Chowdhurry, Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute (AFNI)  conducted the seminar-workshop on the amended International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW) of 1978.  Baylon is also a member of AFNI.
