BALANGA CITY, Bataan – With the onset of summer, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has bared “Hirit sa Tag-init” energy-saving tips for household consumers.
“Let us use LED bulb which is energy-efficient instead of incandescent bulb”, said NGCP Regional Corporate Communications and Public Relations Officer Fely Francisco during her radio guesting at Sikat FM 91.1.
The electricity used over the lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs 5 to 10 times the original purchase price of the bulb itself, according to energy department.
“Make sure to schedule ironing of clothes just once a week and in the morning when it is cooler”, she also advised. “More electricity is being consumed if ironing is done daily since the amount of heat generated by the iron is not maximized, unlike when ironing in big batches of clothes”, she explained. “And do the ironing during off-peak electricity hours that is before 9am or after 5pm”, she added.
“Turn off light in parts of the houses when no one is present, and of course we can save energy by reducing the frequency of use of any appliances”, Francisco pointed out.
The NGCP officer also reminded the public of the dos and don’ts to be safe from transmission lines.
