A Filipino-led radio program on artificial intelligence has gained national recognition after securing three nominations at the 20th Gandingan Awards 2026, highlighting the growing role of innovation-driven content in Philippine broadcasting. AI Talks with the VoiceMaster was cited for its contribution to education and science communication.
The awards ceremony is set on April 25, 2026 at D.L. Umali Hall in Los Baños, carrying the theme “Pakinggan, Tinig ng Kalikasan.” The annual event is organized by the UP Community Broadcasters’ Society, which recognizes media efforts that promote development-oriented storytelling and social impact.
The program earned nominations in three categories: Most Development-Oriented Educational Program, Most Development-Oriented Science and Technology Program, and Gandingan ng Agham at Teknolohiya. These distinctions place the show among select media platforms advancing public understanding of science, technology, and nation-building.
Hosted by Pocholo De Leon Gonzales, a native of Mariveles, Bataan, the weekly program airs every Saturday on Radyo Pilipinas and is recognized as the world’s first AI-focused radio show. It aims to simplify artificial intelligence for everyday Filipinos, presenting it as a tool for empowerment rather than a threat to employment and equality.
Through expert interviews, case studies, and community-centered discussions, the program has reached a wide audience that includes students, educators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers. It continues to emphasize that artificial intelligence can support productivity, creativity, and inclusive growth when used responsibly.
Gonzales said the recognition reflects a broader movement toward innovation in education and media, dedicating the nominations to Filipinos who are embracing technology to improve lives. He underscored the importance of responsible AI use and accessible knowledge in shaping the country’s future.
Established in 2007, the Gandingan Awards is known for honoring media initiatives that uphold development communication and social responsibility. Organizers noted that this year’s nominees underwent a rigorous screening process led by faculty, students, and experts from various colleges of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, further underscoring the significance of the recognition.
