AFAB promotes gender responsive strategies, reviews GAD programs

   Organized by AFAB’s GAD Technical Working Group (TWG), the seminar, attended by 30 female and 10 male employees aimed to raise the awareness of employees on the core messages of gender sensitivity, analysis tools and responsive planning and budgeting.

   AFAB Deputy Administrator and GAD Execom member Patrick Ty emphasized that the event isimportant to ensure that the Authority is adhering to GAD laws and program and budget policies mandated by the United Nations and the national government. Dr. Blesshe VL. Querijero, a certified GAD technical adviser and resource person, was invited to help the participants increase their capacity to address gender issues as reflected in the AFAB’s GAD plans and budgets, and gender responsive policies, programs and services.

   During the event, the employees identified their personal sex biases and confronted issues by becoming more aware of gender myths and facts. They also integrated gender responsive strategies in some of AFAB’s programs through workshops. Moreover, Querijero led the AFAB employees in reviewing the agency’s GAD Plans and Budgets and in identifying more activities for implementation.

   The GAD-TWG organized the training seminar to make the AFAB a gender responsive agency that condemns sex discrimination and stereotyping. The GAD also aims to contribute to thenational government’s commitment to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by 2015, which primarily promotes gender equality and women empowerment.

   As an emerging fashion-manufacturing hub of the Philippines, the FAB strengthens its commitment to foster gender harmony in the workplace and follow the constitutional provisions on gender equality in pursuit of its vision to be the free port of choice in the country by 2020, becoming a center of trade, innovation and sustainable development in Asia and promoting work-life balance and global competitiveness.
