BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR- Bataan) personnel headed by OIC,PENRO Raymond A. Rivera and OIC, CENRO Dinalupihan Edgar D. Laggui joined the world in celebrating the World Migratory Birds Day with the theme “A Healthy Planet for Migratory Birds and People” yesterday, May 10, 2017.

Rivera led his personnel in the Bird Watching and Mangrove Canopy Walk at 600 meters long boardwalk inside the Wetland Park located at Brgy. Tortugas of this component city.

World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) was initiated in 2006 and is an annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. It has a global outreach and is an effective tool to help raise global awareness on the threats faced by migratory birds, their ecological importance, and the need for international cooperation to conserve them.

Rivera said that all these activities can also be undertaken at any time on the year because  countries or regions observe the peak of migrations at different times, but the main day for the international celebrations is the 10th of May.
