BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Government of Bataan through the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) and Management Information Systems Office (MISO) presented its plan for the establishment of a real-time data system of Bataan’s death records yesterday, May 16, at the PGO conference room, this City.
Present in the consultation and orientation were representatives from the LGUs, PHO, DOH as well as Engr. Alexander Baluyot, PPDO head and Mr. Geoffrey Loyola, MISO/PIO head, with their respective staff.
For the brief orientation on the project, Engr. Baluyot led the discussion, underscoring Bataan’s vision that “By 2020, Bataan province will have the lowest poverty incidence resulting from quality growth attaining top-level Human Development Index in the Philippines” and in order to attain that, one of their goals is to establish an efficient, reliable, accurate, and real-time data focused on mortality. He then presented an overview of the rate of death cases in Bataan by usual residence in 2015 and 2016.
The other half of the activity which was facilitated by Mr. Geoffrey Loyola revolved around the demonstration of the system itself. He discussed the stages of the needed system which are: (1) Data from LCR, (2) Files per municipality, (3) Master File, (4) Summary Statistics, and (5) Decision-makers. He further discussed that when the data from LCR has been received, cloud computing will now be performed. Cloud computing is an online platform where everyone can work in a single platform, and the suggested platform to be used is the Google Docs because it is user-friendly and free to be used. After adding the data to the cloud, it will all be summed up into one master file thus, producing the end result which is the summary statistics that will be the basis of the decision-makers.
Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides are a word processor, a spreadsheet and a presentation program respectively, all part of a free, web-based software office suite offered by Google within its Google Drive service. The three apps are available as web applications, and as mobile apps for Android and iOS. The apps are compatible with Microsoft Office file formats. The suite also consists of Google Forms (survey software), Google Drawings (diagramming software) and Google Fusion Tables (database manager; experimental).
After all has been discussed and demonstrated, Mr. Loyola showed a real sample of the proposed system so that the participants can practice doing it right away. The guests participated in the step by step workshop of the system for the process to be clear to them.
