To say that the only permanent thing in this world is change is a cliché to most of us, because change is an inevitable reality that we have to live with. It has become an essential part of our daily lives and has been found to be one of the significant tools in learning.

Educational technology is defined by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology as “the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources”. Educational technology refers to the use of both physical hardware and educational theoretics. Nowadays, schools have acknowledged the importance of using technology in education.

One benefit of the use of technology in the classroom is it helps the teachers in preparing their students for the real world. Since technology has become an integral part of our lives, it is important for the students to learn how to use technology in order to adapt to their environment.

Another benefit is that it encourages the students to be more responsible, make their own decisions and manage learning on their own. Since they love technology, they can enjoy exploring their own tools and be independent while they learn.

Lastly, technology provides the latest, more helpful, creative and more accessible materials for learning.  One example is digital books that are less expensive than the traditional books (hard copies).

Our continuously changing world is becoming technology-dependent day by day, and as an educator, I take it as my responsibility to ensure that my students are able to attune themselves to whatever change they encounter, and utilize this change as a tool in contributing to the betterment of our society in return.
