1st solar power farm in Bataan inaugurated

MARIVELES, Bataan – As the Citicore Power underlined its commitment to achieving a healthy energy mix for the country, the 18-megawatt (MW) solar power project was inaugurated today, in Brgy. Alas-asin, this town.

In a press release by Citicore Power, its Executive Vice-President Manolo Candelaria, said that the power facility will operate and inject power to 22,000 homes connected to the Luzon grid. “We, as clean energy producers, are pushing for economic and environmental sustainability through our projects. Not only are we moving towards energy self-reliance, which is among the objectives of Renewable Energy Act of 2008, we are also doing our environmental duty,” he added.

The plant, which was developed by the Next Generation Power Technology Corp. (NGPT), Filipino-Korean renewable energy developer, spans 37 hectares and is made up of over 68,500 photovoltaic (PV) modules.

“This plant is expected to help avoid 13,000 metric tons of carbon emissions per year – equivalent to planting 600,000 trees over the life of the facility,” said Candelaria.

The inauguration was attended by Hon. Miguel Zubiri, the father of the Renewable Energy Law, and executives of the local government led by Bataan Governor Albert Garcia and Mariveles Mayor Jesse Concepcion, officials of the Authority of the Freeport of Bataan (AFAB), Department of Energy (DOE) representatives, and officers of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
