NFA Food Guardian Campaign: A success!

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The National Food Authority (NFA) launched its FOOD GUARDIAN CAMPAIGN  last September 21, 2015 simultaneous with the celebration of the agency’s 43rd Anniversary and the Grains Industry Week (September 21-25, 2015).

The campaign aims to gather one million volunteers (1 for every 100 Filipinos) who would serve as Food Guardian, pledging to not waste rice and help ensure that rice is made available to the public at all times as well as guarantee the proper handling and storage of food to prevent wastage.

NFA-Bataan personnel joined in the campaign by volunteering as Food Guardians as well as encouraging people from all walks of life to sign up as volunteers.

As of December 31, 2015 Bataan has gathered more than ten thousand signatories for the campaign making up a 129% accomplishment of our 7,806 target volunteers based on the 2010 projected population of the province, which is at approximately 780,000 people.

NFA Bataan started with the agency’s accredited rice retailers and their families, grains businessmen, market vendors and tricycle drivers. Later, the agency coordinated with Bataan Peninsula State University President Dr. Gregorio Rodis to recruit the students, faculty members and employees of the university as food guardians. We were able to gather signatures from the university’s three (3) campuses namely: the Main Campus, the Balanga Campus and the Dinalupihan Campus.

Other schools who joined in the campaign were Casupanan Elementary School and Balsik National High School both in Hermosa and Pablo Roman National High School in Pilar.

The City Government of Balanga headed by Hon. Mayor Joet Garcia also participated in the advocacy as well as the Philippine Red Cross – Bataan Chapter headed by their Chapter Administrator, Mr. Charlie Gatbonton.

The food guardian campaign can now be considered a success because NFA has already surpassed its targeted 1 Million signatures but the advocacy does not stop there. Every food guardian must continue his/her vigilance in ensuring that the food staple is not wasted and is readily available for the public.

The food guardian campaign is a continuous program and anyone who wishes to sign up as a volunteer may contact the National Food Authority – Bataan Provincial Office through our telephone number (047) 237-2914 and email address nfa.bataan@yahoo.com or our Facebook account (Nfa Bataan).
