Cruz receives awards in DOST-SEI exit conference

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Bataan’s pride Jana Marielle S. Cruz from Tomas del Rosario College along with two other graduates from Bataan Peninsula State University received awards during the 2018 Department of Science and Technology- Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Scholars’ Exit Conference held at the Social Action Center of Pampanga, Inc., City of San Fernando yesterday.

With the theme: “Renewing S&T Scholars’ Commitment of Service to the Filipino People,” this annual exit conference aims to re-orient the graduating DOST-SEI scholars on the terms and conditions of the Scholarship Agreement, Information about Career Opportunities, and the DOST-SEI Graduate Scholarship programs.

Central Luzon Region DOST-SEI scholars all received a plaque and certificate while those who graduated with Latin Honors including Cruz got an additional certificate and medal.

Meanwhile, DOST offers three variations of scholarship namely Merit, RA 10612, and and RA 7687. Cruz’s scholarship in DOST is under Republic Act No. 10612 where the return of service after she graduates is to teach in Senior High School.

Conversely, she shared her experience in chasing the said scholarship on her third year in college.

“So nung exam na sa BPSU, sobrang kabado ko syempre. Ayoko kasing magturo sa totoo lang dahil parang wala akong talent don. Pinagdasal ko ‘yun, sabi ko kay Lord ‘pag pumasa ko, edi will Niya na magturo ako. If not, okay lang din. Sa industry na ko agad,” she said.

The DOST-SEI scholars will give back to the country through their return of service after they graduate in college.
