CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman supports the establishment of the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR). As chairperson of the House Committee on Disaster Management, Roman said, “It is very important to have a separate department that will be in charge before, during, and after the disaster”.
If ever, DDR would primarily be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the preparation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of disaster and climate change resilience plans and programs. Roman said this during her talk at the Climate and Smart Disaster Resilient Philippines: 1st Regional Conference held at Crown Royale Hotel last November 29.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Roman reminded the students of Bataan National High School who attended said event, “Kung hindi niyo mamahalin ang kalikasan, wala kayong magiging kinabukasan”.
Roman also told the students that taking care of the environment should start with themselves. “If you see your family member or neighbors doing things that will harm the environment (littering, burning trashes, etc.), have the courage to tell them that what they are doing is wrong, and teach them the right things to do. Be an advocate to take care of the environment. Ang taong malinis ay ang hindi nagkakalat”, she added.
Roman also shared that the Lower Congress already approved House Bill No. 8165 also known as the “Department of Disaster Resilience Act” on 3rd and Final Reading dated October 1, 2018.
