“Dati, pangarap lamang namin ito. Pero ngayon nakikita namin na ang pangarap namin, natutupad na,” said Brgy. Kabalutan Punong Barangay and Tubo-tubo Fisherfolks Association Adviser Sally Raymundo during the launch of the Baka1Bataan: Orani Mangrove Adoption and Protection Project yesterday, September 12.

The Baka1Bataan is a flagship project of the Provincial Government of Bataan through its Environment and Natural Resources Office, in cooperation with GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC), Department of Environment and Natural Resources, LGU Orani, and Tubo-tubo Fisherfolks Association, which aims to protect the coastlines, sustain the marine life biodiversity, develop livelihood opportunities, and promote ecotourism over the 5-hectare land.

PG-ENRO Officer-in-charge Raphael de Leon expressed his gratitude towards GMEC for allocating P7 million for this project, and for the possible extension of their original five-year adoption. Additionally, PENR Officer Raul Mamac promised that the DENR will ensure the cleanliness of the mangrove area by deploying their so-called “estero rangers.”

A blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony also took place in the nipa hut that serves as the watchpoint of the mangrove area, followed by the unveiling of a signage that serves as a marker of the partnership among stakeholders and reminder of the beginning of a legacy.

Also present during said activity were 1st District Board Member Atty. Antonino Roman, GMEC AVP for Community Relations Arcel Madrid, Provincial Tourism Officer Azucena Sugatain, representatives from LGU Orani, and members of the Tubo-tubo Fisherfolks Association.
